Deep Purple had reunited to record a killer of a comeback album, 1984's Perfect Strangers, marking the first time the lineup had worked together since 1973. According to Eagle Rock: “Perfect Strangers Live is a stunning concert with the band in incendiary form. The setlist mixes then new tracks from Perfect Strangers with favorites from the early '70s, culminating in the brilliant "Smoke on the Water" finale. This is without doubt one of the finest Deep Purple concerts ever filmed — and a must-have for their legions of fans.” The concert was shot in Melbourne, Australia, during their lengthy mid-'80s reunion tour, is the only full-length recording of the band from that time.

"Knocking at Your Back Door: The Best of Deep Purple in the 80's" is a compilation album by the British hard rock band Deep Purple. It is a compilation of tracks from three albums, Perfect Strangers (1984), The House of Blue Light (1987), and the live album Nobody's Perfect (1988). This best-of of eighties Deep Purple marks the return of the Mark II line-up, and what a return! Although purists will disagree with compilations such as this, it has to be said that weeding out the dross makes this a stunning disc. From the sheer exuberance of the title track, to the monumental re-working of 'Hush,' there is very little to dislike here.

Nobody's Perfect is a live album released in 1988 by Deep Purple. It was recorded on their The House of Blue Light tour during 1987/88. The album peaked at number 105 on the Billboard 200 in the US. The album represented Deep Purple's setlist at the time, which consisted much of the typical "Made In Japan (album)" set, combined with newer material from the 1984 reunion album Perfect Strangers and The House of Blue Light. Songs such as "The Unwritten Law" and "Difficult To Cure" were played every night on the tour, but were not represented on this album.

If Wacken shows Deep Purple's performance in front of a huge rock audience, playing as if they had to leave all their habits behind, the Tokyo show is presenting Deep Purple completely at ease with their history and themselves. On the very same venue where the band has written rock history with the album “Made In Japan”, Deep Purple went on stage without nostalgia and with the attitude of a band that is physically led by the music, making playing a perfect show look as the most natural thing one could do. Song after song, Purple play a flawless show going back and forth in time…
