Under the watchful eye of famed producer Michael Cuscuna, this nine-CD set serves as a compilation of Stitt's 1950s and 1960s Roost LPs. This release also features a 28-page booklet consisting of comprehensively annotated liners. Moreover, the record label does its best to convey the artistic element via a series of black-and-white photos of Stitt and his sidemen amid anecdotes by many of the late saxophonist's affiliates. Interestingly enough, seven of the original LPs did not list personnel. In some instances, guesses were made, although most of these tracks are well-documented, thanks to the producer's diligence and painstaking research. Artists such as drummer Roy Haynes, bassist/composer Charles Mingus, and pianist Harold Maber represent but a few of Stitt's accompanists.

7-disc CD box set from legendary trumpeter Roy Aldridge and the Verve Label. Includes his complete recordings 24-bit digitally remastered and booklet with rare photos. 2003 USA 102-track 7 CD set, each housed in its own jewel case with picture sleeve, and sleeve notes about the recordings. Chronicles the completes sessions for Verve recorded by Roy Eldridge across 7 CD's MD7-222. Limited Edition: 10000 copies. " The annals of jazz abound with nicknames: Satch, King, Pres, Lady, Count, Dizzy, Bird, Hawk, Rabbit, Lips, Fats, Curly, Slim, Slam. But only one musician was named for the music itself: Little Jazz–soon shortened to simply Jazz by Roy Eldridge's close friends. Norman Granz, who produced most of the sessions in this set, once wrote that he knew "no other musician whose playing better typifies the spirit of jazz than Roy Eldridge," and indeed Little Jazz was ALL jazz, from top to toe, the whole feisty five feet, six inches of him. Bristling with energy, "trying to outplay anybody, and outplay them my way," he was always ready to challenge all comers, but most of all, himself. "

Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington were (and are) two of the main stems of jazz. Any way you look at it, just about everything that's ever happened in this music leads directly – or indirectly – back to them. Both men were born on the cusp of the 19th and 20th centuries, and each became established as a leader during the middle '20s. Although their paths had crossed from time to time over the years, nobody in the entertainment industry had ever managed to get Armstrong and Ellington into a recording studio to make an album together. On April 3, 1961, producer Bob Thiele achieved what should be regarded as one of his greatest accomplishments; he organized and supervised a seven-and-a-half-hour session at RCA Victor's Studio One on East 24th Street in Manhattan, using a sextet combining Duke Ellington with Louis Armstrong & His All-Stars. This group included ex-Ellington clarinetist Barney Bigard, ex-Jimmie Lunceford swing-to-bop trombonist Trummy Young, bassist Mort Herbert, and drummer Danny Barcelona. A second session took place during the afternoon of the following day.

Less well-known than Rollins' earlier Prestige and Riverside records and slightly later Impulse albums, his output for RCA was recorded right after the great tenor came back from an extended sabbatical.

Remastered in 24-bit from the original master tapes. Part of our Keepnews Collection, which spotlights classic albums originally produced by the legendary and arguably the most respected of all jazz producers, Orrin Keepnews. A new phase in Sonny Rollins' career began in 1957. He started what was at the time an almost blasphemous trend of recording for a number of different labels. His pioneering spirit yielded a few genre-defining albums, including this disc. His performances were also at a peak during 1957 as Down Beat magazine proclaimed him the Critics' Poll winner under the category of "New Star" of the tenor saxophone.

It is difficult to believe after listening to this two-CD set, that Sonny Stitt only had six weeks left in his life; he already had cancer but did not know it. Switching between tenor and alto, Stitt on the first disc is heard in top form with pianist Junior Mance, bassist George Duvivier, and drummer Jimmy Cobb while the second CD (recorded the following day) adds trumpeter Bill Hardman and has Walter Davis in Mance's place. As was typical of Stitt's career, the music throughout is high-quality bebop with the saxophonist stretching out creatively over common chord changes. This double CD (a straight reissue of two single LPs) shows that Sonny Stitt went out on top.

Gaps. We hate them. We admit it, we’re completists, and we can’t tolerate inaccurate personnel logs, song edits imposed on artists, or sessions split up over scattered LPs. We’re compelled to jump in and fix the errors and re-create mis-handled recording dates. Our Stan Getz Quintet box with Jimmy Raney – one of Mosaic’s earliest sets and out of print nearly 20 years – was an example of our efforts to clean-up an important body of music that over time had been re-issued haphazardly, and with substandard sound. More recently, when we learned that Getz’s Norgran Studio recordings were coming out on CD, we thought: - shouldn’t LP enthusiasts get the Clef/Norgran set in full, sumptuous Mosaic editions, on 180-gram audiophile LP?
