A live double album from the groups tours undertaken between 1975 and 1977 that wasn't released until 1986, this spectacular concert album features this premier Italian prog band performing at their very peak to an enthusiastic audience in, amongst other places, Milan, Parma and Bologna. Those familiar with the group will, at a glance, see a series of classic Le Orme tracks filling the set-list, whilst brief, and welcome interpretations of Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin tracks also feature. The sound is raw but powerful, and despite the occasional sonic glitch this highly-anticipated release - which, originally was only available in either Japan or Italy - still stands up as a fine double-album that should be well-and-truly lapped up by both fans of the group and Italian progressive rock aficianado's…

I remembered the first Le ORME album I ever bought. It was "Ad Gloriam", an odd pick given that album isn't what you call progressive (it was psychedelic pop). The next Le ORME album I got was "Felona e Sorona", and I couldn't be more surprised how different this album sounded.

This excellent recording is largely considered to be Le Orme's magnum opus. The trio, comprised of Aldo Tagliapietra (vocals, bass, guitar), Toni Pagliuca (organ/Mellotron, piano), and Michi Dei Rossi (drums), produced some of the best Italian progressive rock ever recorded. Influenced by Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Genesis, the band forged their own unique blend of sophisticated symphonic prog rock. Tagliapietra's vocals give the music an ethereal quality, and he actually sounds quite a bit like Sting (or the other way around). Their high level of musicianship is evident on "Sospesi Nell 'Incredibile," but the focus is more on mood, song structure, and texture…

This band were one of the major groups of the Italian prog rock scene in the seventies and one of the few Italian bands that were successful outside their own country.
"La Via Della Seta", which means the silk road, can be regarded as one long suite. All tracks are linked together and the music flows without any interruption making an imaginary journey along this road, where you encounter the ghosts of merchants, pilgrims, missionaries, soldiers, nomads and cruel barbarians exploring mysterious cities and civilizations. The music that comes along with this concept recalls the best moments of Le Orme…

Alice Cespi (Florinda Bolkan) begins to see her life fall apart due to strange memories from childhood when she was forced to watch a film called "Footprints on the Moon" involving an unethical experiment in leaving astronauts stranded on the moon's surface. Alice has terrible dreams and begins to become addicted to tranquilizers. The drugs and her deteriorating mental condition cause her to miss work and she is eventually fired, whereupon she travels to a dilapidated former tourist area called Garma after receiving a mysterious postcard. There, she runs into a girl named Paula Burton (Nicoletta Elmi), who tells her that she looks exactly like another woman, Nicole, currently staying at the faded resort. Alice then encounters a series of strange people and circumstances, all leading her closer to unlocking the possibly deadly mystery.

Le Orme ("The Footprints") is an Italian psychedelic and progressive rock band formed in 1966 in Marghera (Venice).
Their first record was for the tiny Car Juke Box label, in 1968.
They earned two gold albums, a discography critic award, an England Tour. Le Orme's most famous work, the concept album Felona e Sorona, was issued in English in collaboration with Peter Hammill of Van der Graaf Generator.
Le Orme's last three works (Il fiume, Elementi and L'infinito) show a return to a classic progressive sound, and form somewhat of a trilogy pivoting on the "becoming" of the human being.

While earlier albums show LE ORME's masterity in composing great Symphonic Prog pieces for ELP-like trio, they never fall into bombastic category - LE ORME are Italians and they care for MELODIES first!!! This one is pure brilliance - melodies and emotions. No bombastic keyboards at all - acoustic guitars, violas and pianos…

At first listen, this seems a more experimental, obtuse follow-up to the lauded 'Felona E Sorona' album. After becoming more familiar with it, I can only figure it's due to the lack of cohesiveness between tracks. 'Felona E Sorona' had a certain flow because, not only was it a concept album, it was an especially well-written one. 'Contrappunti' simply seems like an unrelated series of songs, and it's not to be faulted for that, because what you get here are some of Le Orme's mightiest compositions…

L'infinito is the final installment of the trilogy that Le Orme began with Il Fiume. In terms of style, it closely mimics Elementi, including the Satriani style guitar early on and the sitar around the middle. In terms of quality, it's perhaps half a notch below Elementi, but still a pretty good album. Aldo Tagliapietra makes a thematic return to Indian spirituality, with tracks like "Shanti" and a roadsign on the cover with an OM symbol on it. Incidentally, the Paul Whitehead cover is again moderately clever, but this time more visually appealing to me…

This concept album by legendary Italian prog band LE ORME was a very nice surprise for me five years after their comeback album"Il Fiume" which I found rather weak and simplistic. "Elementi" became much more dynamic than its predecessor, the quality of the compositions comes closer to that one of their 70's masterpieces but nevertheless they're not just copying theirselves and it sounds very modern. There are 14 suites about the four elements which segue without any break into each other. The compositions are nicely balanced between up-tempo and more dreamy ones, as well between vocal and instrumental sections.
